Some Holiday Reading

Here are a few of the holiday books I read these last few months. Remember, if it’s a little late in the season for you, holiday stories can be read all year long! Same for movies-I watch The Holiday, While You Were Sleeping and Desk Set several times a year.

Originally written as a movie script, you can definitely imagine this as a Hallmark Holiday rom-com. It’s a story of second chances, featuring Rose, a Christmas hater, whose sister plunks her right in the middle of the Christmas Capital of the US. Where she promptly runs into Malcolm, the man who broke her heart nine years earlier. When the Holly Oaks Tree Farm – beloved by everyone in town and a special favorite for Malcolm – experiences a crisis, Rose steps in. And Holly Oaks begins to work its magic. A fun novella with characters you’ll love.

When Zoey is killed by a tram on Christmas Eve, she’s given a challenge of making six love matches in a 3 week “do-over” so she can live. It’s a bit frustrating in the beginning because her boyfriend is a jerk and her best friend’s on again, off again girlfriend won’t let her move on. But Zoey is so funny and sweet that you’ll be happy you hung in through her fumbling match making efforts among strangers and friends. So many lovely characters in this and, of course, everyone gets their merry ever after.

In a perfect blend of spice and emotion, Cat, a high-powered HGTV-esque star, and Noah, a city manager known as Mr. No, collide after a flood wipes out part of a town where their Christmas festival is the biggest economic draw of the year. When Cat vows to clean up the town in time for them to celebrate the holidays and air a live show for her network, Noah reluctantly signs on. Cat’s family and Noah’s daughter and ex provide big hearts and Cat and Noah keep each other warm with spirited squabbles and sizzling sex.

Maggie, a wedding dress shop owner, winds up looking after bed-ridden attorney Marco, when they’re in a bone-breaking accident. Her daughter, Ellen, is off to Paris for Christmas and her dad is off on a cruise with friends, leaving Maggie possibly alone for the festive season for the first time in her life. Many mishaps, weddings, family drama and miscommunications later, Maggie and Marco open up about their lives and realize how lucky they were to run into each other.

Aviva and Holly discover they’re identical twins separated at birth. When the girls decide to switch families so they can experience the Christmas and Hanukkah traditions of the other, they learn more than just about the holidays. As we meet all the relatives, and watch the girls navigate the deception, more than anything, we want these people to become one big, happy family. Funny and heartfelt, it’s a great story to share with the kids in your life.

I hope you all get some quiet reading time this holiday season.  Merry, happy days!
