Thursday Thoughts ~ June 5, 2025

Oh boy, this wasn’t the week I’d anticipated…

Friday, I was sitting in the car, waiting for The Husband, who was dropping off something to a friend at the Knott’s Berry Farm employee entrance. Naturally, I was reading 😊 When my nose starting running, I wiped it to find bright red blood! I don’t think I’ve had a nose bleed since I was a kid and this one was a doozy. I put my head back but I didn’t realize I should be pinching to create a clot, so by the time The Husband got back, I was in a panic. He took me back to the guard station, where they called their Knott’s EMT’s, who came out and helped stem the flow. Everyone was so nice and helped calm me down.

I have continual congestion because in California, there’s always something in bloom. I’d woken up extra congested that morning, so we’re thinking it was just a combination of allergies and what seemed to be a sinus infection. By Friday evening, I had a temperature of 101. We were supposed to participate in the Moving Day Parkinson’s Disease fundraiser walk and activities but I was like a dishrag on Saturday – no energy, off and on fever, and another nose bleed – no way I could have gone. So disappointing. But we did raise money for the cause, so thanks to all who contributed!!

We spent this morning at the vets with our 11-year-old cat, Junior. He has a history of urinary blockage, so when it seemed he was having issues on Tuesday, we kept an eye on him. We’re always concerned about blockage, so I keep a log of his bathroom habits – tracking when he pees confirms times like this when problems arise. Seeing he was still having issues it was off to the vet this morning. Relieved they don’t think it’s a blockage, just an infection/inflammation. They sent us on our way with 2 types of pills. Before we left, they gave him a shot and already he seems better. Sleeping like a hockey puck (he’s black and curls himself into a circle when he sleeps), he’s happy to be home.

I’ve been reading A Second Helping on Kindle, the second Blessings book about the inhabitants of Henry Adams, Kansas by Beverly Jenkins.  These books are more addictive than sugar but, whoa! If you don’t catch the ebooks on sale, they’re really expensive, in some cases, more expensive than the paperbacks. Since my library doesn’t have them, I guess I’ll just have to wait for sales…

In paper, I’ve been reading One Death at a Time by Abbi Waxman. It’s a murder mystery with some very colorful characters, including a Hollywood icon turned lawyer for the downtrodden and a three-year sober woman full of sass and wit, who finds herself both the lawyer’s sponsor and personal assistant. Lots (and lots) of other characters and two murder investigations have taxed my congested, sleep-deprived brain this week, but I’m really loving it and hanging in to find out who killed who.

I haven’t streamed a thing this week, so nothing new to report. We usually watch old tv shows on DVD in the evenings when we’re feeding our diabetic kitty, Patchwork, though. Right now, we’re on season three of Stargate SG-1. The Husband is the one who watched it most faithfully when it was shown originally. I’m enjoying watching it in order from the beginning. I always liked the actors and characters, especially Richard Dean Anderson’s snarky Colonel O’Neill. It’s sci-fi about a portal to other planets. Stories range from funny to all-out war, with a cast of alien good guys and bad guys, plus irritating politicians, and by-the-book military commanders. The production value was always amazing, as far as costumes, sets, and alien makeup.

Happy Pride Month!!

Can’t believe we’re almost half-way through the year already! If you gave yourself goals, I hope you’re smashing them. I’d hoped to publish my book by now, but sometimes life, and imposter syndrome, intrude 😊 Onward!

Till next Thursday!
